How it’s like to do your internship at Ingram Micro?

In the final year of my Office Management study program, I have to do an internship in a company for 4 months to find out how it really works in the workplace. The school gave me a list of companies from which I could choose. Because of my motivation to do an internship at Ingram Micro, I could start here in September 2017.
I had never heard of Ingram Micro, a world-class company, and that surprised me enormously. Ingram is the largest IT distributor in the world and I did not know the company ... Shame on me!
After a while I started to understand why I did not know the company. There was only a small chance that I would have had contact with Ingram in my personal life. That is because Ingram Micro is the channel between a lot of brands, such as Microsoft and resellers, such as Media Markt. They never get in contact with the end-user, such as me. But it’s funny I know now that most of the things I buy in a Media Markt is distributed by Ingram Micro.
During my first week I got the chance to follow the induction training for the new hires. I could not arrive at Ingram Micro at any better time. During that training, the way of working and the various departments of Ingram Micro were extensively explained. I immediately gained insight into the departments, who they are, what they do, where they are on the floor … a lot of interesting information.
When I visited Ingram Micro for the first time, I was overwhelmed by the fantastic work environment. Very modern office, latest technology and an identity that can only be found at Ingram Micro. I was immediately devoted. Everything is in place to feel at home at work, in my case at my internship.
Within Ingram Micro I have been fortunate enough to do my internship at the HR department. I can tell you that after this internship my interest in Human Resources has only increased. I have learned to work with many recruiters tools during this internship and gained knowledge on the subject.
On the one hand there was the world of HR that has opened up for me in the past 3 months, on the other hand I have also been able to see closely how an IT distributor works and what’s involved.
During my internship I got a lot of freedom and trust to complete tasks. I got the chance to develop myself and could always ask for help if necessary. It is nice to see that your presence can make a difference.
In short, Ingram Micro is a modern and fresh company where it is nice to work or do an internship. The people are passionate about their job and that is contagious.
