HP uses recycled plastic in the manufacturing of Original HP Ink Cartridges

Original HP Ink Cartridges have been engineered to use recycled plastic and still meet HP’s demanding standards for quality and reliability. Recycled plastic from Original HP Ink Cartridges—returned by customers through the HP Planet Partners program—is combined with recycled plastic bottle materials or recycled apparel hangers to create new Original HP Ink Cartridges.

HP has produced more than 5 billion Original HP Ink Cartridges using this post-consumer recycled content. The recycled plastic used in Original HP Ink Cartridges has an average 30% smaller carbon footprint than the virgin plastic used in Original HP Ink Cartridges.

HP launched an ambitious program in Haiti to help tackle the growing challenge of ocean-bound plastics. Working with the First Mile Coalition and our supplier partners, we have now built a fully functioning ocean-bound plastics supply chain. HP is purchasing recycled plastic from Haiti for use in our closed-loop ink cartridge recycling program.

How can you contribute? Buy original HP supplies!

It is a myth that remanufactured cartridges are better for the environment. They leave a larger carbon footprint than original HP supplies. Remanufactured cartridges produce lower print quality, and thus more reprints and high paper waste.

HP strives to reduce environmental impact. Manufacturing new cartridges using returned HP cartridges and other plastics contributes to a circular economy. With 100% of new Original HP Toner cartridges and over 80% of new Original HP Ink cartridges containing recycled content, this is manufacturing you can trust.
